Almost all of us know that between the 17th and 18th, many parts of India were under the control of the British authorities. During this time, to avoid the heat, the British officers had started living in cold regions i.e. mountainous places. In such a situation, many special places were built for the army at that time. One of those special places is known as 'Mall Road'. (Best Hill Stations of South India)

It is mentioned in many places in history that during the British era, married and newly married army or officers lived around Mall Road. At that time such places were also known as Living Line. Official decisions were taken here.

Major store and city center location

Yes, there is another different meaning behind having mall roads at hill stations. Mall road present on the hill station is a place where all types of major shops, hotels etc. are present. At that time this place was famous as the main market for the British people. In a way, the main center of the city. During the British period, the British army used to do most of the walking work on Mall Road in the evening. He also used to walk on Mall Road with family, friends and other officials.

having a head office

During the British period, the city's main office, fire service and police headquarters, etc., used to be present on this road. However, even today almost all the offices are on Mall Road. Most automobiles are almost never allowed on Mall Road except for emergency vehicles. However, today many mall roads have been renamed to something else, but they are identified with the mall road itself.

Though these city centers have been replaced by malls and some mall roads have been renamed in the last two decades, there is still no dearth of mall roads in the country.

Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, is a very beautiful hill station. Due to its weather and beauty, it was the summer capital of India under British rule. The beautiful and picturesque views here attract everyone towards themselves. Although Shimla is often mentioned in our talks. Like when the cold wind blows, we involuntarily say that Shimla wind is blowing. I always wanted to go here but due to some reason the schedule to visit Shimla was not being made.

My younger brother is working as a loco pilot in the Indian Railways. After his transfer to Kalka, he took duty in running the world-famous toy train from Kalka to Shimla. On his call, we made a program to go to Shimla. The month of December was about to pass and the whole of North India was witnessing the widespread effect of winter. There can be no better weather than this to visit the snowy hill station. We also reached from Saharanpur which is a city in Uttar Pradesh by Kalka rail. One had to travel from Kalka to Shimla by Toy Train.

On reaching Shimla, passing through the mountains and dense forests, it felt as if we had come to heaven. Shimla is really a wonderful city. There are many places to visit here, out of which I am telling in detail about some of the main places.

Mall Road & Ridge

Mall Road of Shimla is a world-famous place where tourists from all over the country and abroad always come to visit. From here there are snowy mountains visible on one side and green valleys on the other. Many British-era buildings on Mall Road enhance its beauty. There is always activity here day and night. But after the sunset of the day, the evening becomes very beautiful and the whole city of Shimla is lit up. Christ Church situated on the Ridge is very popular. Mall Road is also the most suitable place for shopping. There are many good restaurants to eat and drink in here. I love eating ice cream here.

Kalka - Shimla Toy Train

Toy train ie Narrow Gauge is currently running at 4 places in India. These places are in Matheran in Maharashtra, Ooty in Tamil Nadu, Darjeeling in West Bengal and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. The distance of 96 kms from Kalka to Shimla is covered in about 6 hours. Passing through about 101 tunnels, 860 bridges, and more than 900 twisting turns, the way of this train looks very beautiful mountains, forests, and towns. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. I really liked going to Shimla by train. I suggest traveling from Kalka to Shimla by this toy train. You will get a great experience.

Shri Hanuman Jakhoo Temple

Jakhoo Temple situated on Jakhu Hills is dedicated to Hanuman ji. The 108 feet high idol of Hanuman ji looks very grand. This temple is easily visible from Mall Road and almost all the places of Shimla. From here the view of Shimla city and sunrise and sunset is very picturesque. According to mythology, it is believed that when Hanuman ji was going to take Sanjeevani Booti to save the life of Lakshmana who fainted from Meghnad's attack in Treta Yuga, he stayed here for some time to rest. You can easily reach here by car or ropeway from Shimla. There are many monkeys in the temple premises too, so keep your valuables with you.

Green Valley

Green Valley is one of the main attractions of Shimla. Surrounded by dense and lush green forests of deodar, this place is very serene and worth seeing. Situated on the way from Shimla to Kufri, this place is very good for photography. The distance between Shimla to Green Valley is 7 kms. It was really a great experience to spend time here. The beautiful view here is very soothing to the eyes. We stayed here for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed these beautiful views. These valleys are really breathtaking. Be sure to go here.

Kufri

Kufri, 13 km from Shimla, is known for its snow-capped mountains and valleys. Above the car parking lot, you have to sit on a mule on the mountain, which is full of adventure. Tourists from abroad come here to do snow skiing in Kufri. Here you can ride the yoke. The atmosphere of Kufri is very lively and tourists enjoy the natural beauty here. We had a lot of fun here in the snow. There are also a lot of stalls for snacks and the fun of drinking tea here in winter is something else. Here one can see distant snow-filled mountains and apple orchards with binoculars. Bollywood films have also been shot in Kufri. Kufri is a very nice place.

Our visit to Shimla and Kufri was very memorable. It was very nice to spend leisure time with my family in these beautiful valleys. In the relaxing weather and wonderful views of Shimla, people forget all the stress and get lost. The evening of Mall Road, which is called the heart of Shimla, was really very beautiful.
